A 4-Day Itinerary in Copenhagen
Booked your flight and now planning what to do in Copenhagen for 4 days? You lucky, lucky person – you’re going to LOVE it! Everywhere I go I end up wishing I could move there, but with Copenhagen, I really mean it! I mean come on… just look at those pastries…
My first few things to note before I get into the day to day:
- The coffee and the pastries are out of this world, please try!!
- Hire a bike for the day. Cycling is such a nice way to get around, even if you’re not super confident. There are wide cycle lanes everywhere so you feel safe and more experienced cyclists will just cycle around you so you don’t need to worry about going slow.
- If you’re a runner, pack your shoes! You’ll be pleased to know that it’s super flat and there are lots of other runners so it’ll definitely leave you feeling like a local!
- It’s expensive – I’m talking more expensive than London so be prepared to save up a little extra.
- I found that everywhere took card so you shouldn’t need to take out cash but if you do, there are ATM’s everywhere.
- Everyone is so friendly, it’s one of the happiest countries in the world and it shows!
Okay, so let’s get to it:
DAY 1:
Take it easy, stroll around the centre and get a feel for the city. It’s not huge so you can easily get around on foot. Whether you’re after something high end, your standard high street fashion or a cool vintage find, Copenhagen has it all. Make sure you check out these gems:
- Hay House – a super cool store selling gorgeous furniture and accessories. It’s located on the 2nd floor so you get some really lovely views of the centre.
- Normann Copenhagen – I stumbled across this by accident but I’m so glad I did! Head here to check out their immaculate showrooms and furniture displays and you’ll likely have the whole place to yourself.
- Boii Studios – they sell gorgeous women’s clothing if you fancy treating yourself to a little something!
Where to grab a coffee and a pastry:
- Hart – (my personal favourite). Their raspberry tart is a must-try!
- Buka – perfect if you love a sweet treat, they have an amazing selection but be prepared to queue!
- Andersen & Maillard – here you can find a delicious cinnamon bun or the most perfect pain suisse.
From the centre, head to Nyhavn – one of the most iconic spots in Copenhagen. This is where the famous strip of colourful houses is situated and the most picturesque canal you’ll visit. Tip – this does attract the tourists and it gets very busy so if you have time to head here first thing in the morning, I would recommend doing that instead.
Or to escape the crowds, you can jump into a boat and head down the canal on a boat cruise to see the sights from the water.
In the evening, head to Copenhagen’s famous and magical theme park – Tivoli Gardens. It’s the 3rd oldest theme park in the world and was actually the inspiration for Disneyland! You can pay for just an entrance pass if you’re not a rides person and just wander round, enjoy the restaurants, food trucks and great vibes. You could easily spend hours here so give yourself enough time to enjoy it fully!
DAY 2:
Head to Osterbro for a chilled morning. Here you can enjoy the food scene, the great shopping and of course, the sweet treats! It’s a lovely place to wander around at a slower pace and the perfect spot to enjoy a bike ride. I definitely recommend checking out:
- Juno is the place to go for breakfast. Expect a long queue but trust me, it’s so worth it. I tried the almond croissant (pictured at the start of the blog) which was delicious!
- Prolog Coffee – I grabbed an iced coffee from here which ended up being my favourite coffee of the whole trip!
- Grod – there are a few of these dotted around Copenhagen but this one was super cute and cosy, the perfect place to hide from cold weather. They serve traditional Danish porridge with all kinds of sweet and savoury toppings making it seriously hard to pick.
- Fælledparken – is the largest park in Copenhagen. It’s lovely to stroll or run through and has something for everyone including a skatepark, kids playgrounds and an area just for pets and their owners.
- Gasoline Grill – Fuel up after a morning of walking with this must-try burger and chips!
Not far from Osterbro, you’ll find Nordhavn. This is a much more modern part of Copenhagen with some great architecture. Make sure you check out:
- The Park’N’Play Multi-Storey Carpark – has a playground situated on the rooftop with the most amazing views of Copenhagen. There are stairs going up the side of the building which you can climb for free to see the views and take your kids for an experience they’ll never forget!
- Sankaj Swimming Spot – this is also free to use and the perfect place to cool down in the summer months. The boardwalk and the surrounding cafes makes it a really peaceful place to just chill and soak up the sun.
DAY 3:
Explore some different areas such as Vesterbro and Frederiksburg which offer great food, culture and nightlife!
- The Meatpacking District – a really buzzing area filled with a wide variety of cool food spots. A great place to grab a coffee but also a popular hotspot when it comes to nightlife.
- Orsa Coffee – coffee supplied from Prolog, great music and a mixture of sweet and savoury treats, what more could you want!
- Frederiksburg Palace and Gardens – this park is huge and really beautiful so definitely worth heading here for a stroll. The palace is truly breathtaking and looks like something straight out of Bridgerton!
- Hanzo – Pan Asian cuisine. The food here was delicious… which is probably why it was fully booked when I visited so make sure to book in advance! Luckily you don’t need a booking to sit outside so I enjoyed the weather and people watching whilst tucking in!
DAY 4:
Head to Norrebro, a trendy and busier area of Copenhagen with some great food and shopping. Don’t miss out on:
- Diamond Slice Pizza – the best slice of pizza your tastebuds will ever experience. Make sure you try the hot honey!
- Kræss – if you enjoy looking through prints like I do, this quirky little shop is for you! With prints in all colours and sizes, I could have stayed here for hours.
- Strolling along the river – the perfect place to take your food or your book and just chill on a bench while taking in the sites and people watching.
- Botanical Gardens – if you have the time, this beautiful green space is well worth a visit. It’s free to the public to roam and relax and is filled with rare trees and plants.
